In certain periods, the protein
requirements of pigeons are higher. Especially during the breeding
and moulting season, a rich supply of high-grade proteins is
indispensable.
Not only the quantity of proteins,
yet also their composition is of the utmost importance. Proteins are made
from amino acids. It is very important that all amino acids are present in
a sufficient amount. In most grain mixes, the important amino acids
(methionine & lysine) are insufficiently present. Moreover the total protein
percentage is in these grain mixes often too low.
Researchers
established that the ideal protein percentage in the ration during the
breeding period should be 17 to 18%. Yet most breeding mixtures contain
but 14 to 15% protein.
By adding SUCCES-CORN
to the ration, the protein percentage can be brought to the ideal level
and the quality of the protein can be improved, SUCCES-CORN is in fact an
extruded food with high percentages of high-grade proteins, supplemented
with the essential amino acids lysine and methionine.
Also
during the moulting period the use of SUCCES-CORN is highly recommended.
Feathers are in fact principally made up of proteins.
The
accompanying graph illustrates how the protein percentage increases in
accordance with the amount of SUCCES-CORN added to the ration. SUCCES-CORN
also assures a supply of vitamins, minerals and trace elements.
In
most breeding mixes, 20% (one fifth of the ration) SUCCES-CORN
should be added to obtain 17% protein in the ration.
During
breeding season, this would mean 12 grams (1tablespoon) per pigeon for a
total daily food intake of about 60 grams.
